If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday, surrounded by world-class scenery, rare plants and abundant wildlife, then you’ll enjoy every minute of your holiday at Almara Chalet.

From this peaceful location, you can enjoy walking and exploring the world famous views and geology of Eshaness and Hillswick Ness. Ronas Hill has many rare plants and is the highest hill in Shetland; North Roe has Shetland’s oldest rocks; Fethaland is the farthest north point on the main island; the pretty village of Ollaberry has a fault line – and all are only a short drive from Almara Chalet. Abundant wildlife including otters and seals, and frequently whales and dolphins, can be observed along the coast and a Wildlife Sanctuary is based in Hillswick village.

This beautiful rural location is in the northern parish of Northmavine, just 30 miles from Lerwick. Half an hour’s drive from Almara will bring you to the inter-island ferries that will take you north to the islands of Yell, Unst and Fetlar, or east to Out Skerries, Whalsay or Bressay, making day trips to some of the other islands very easy and enjoyable.

Up-to-date helpful advice with good local knowledge on what to see and do is thoughtfully offered, as is a weather forecast to ensure you are aware of and can take into consideration any possible weather related problems when making your plans.

To fully enjoy your holiday can I please suggest that you consider having transport – even if only for a few days – this will enable you to see more of Shetland’s other beautiful areas and make travel easier around the islands.

From this crofting hamlet of only five houses at Upper Urafirth, Marcia Williamson extends a warm Shetland welcome to share this tranquil location as her guest.
