Establishment Overview

Georgian Belmont, built in 1775 and fully restored, is in a magnificent natural setting with formal gardens.

Extending over three floors, the house is elegantly furnished to the highest standard.

Make the most of the beautiful first floor drawing room with views in three directions, draw inspiration looking out from the Venetian writing room, or relax in the spectacular gardens after a day exploring the numerous walking opportunities, enjoying the wildlife and the Viking heritage - all on Belmont's doorstep!

And by staying in Belmont, you are directly helping preserve this historic property for future generations to enjoy. A charitable trust, governed by volunteer local trustees, was set up to raise the funds to restore the building and open the gardens to the community. Now a beautiful comfortable house, profits are re-invested in an ongoing programme of maintenance to preserve the building against the severe winter climate.

We hope you will love Belmont as much as we do!

Directions

Getting to Belmont House from Lerwick or Sumburgh

This is a road and ferry journey. Follow the main road A970 and A968 north to the ferry terminal at Toft. Sumburgh to Lerwick is about 35 minutes, Lerwick to Toft about the same. The Yell Sound crossing is 20 minutes; the ferries have comfortable seating and toilets and hot drink machines.

From the terminal at Ulsta follow the road through Yell with scenic views over Yell Sound and the north mainland of Shetland to Gutcher, from where the ferry crosses to Unst (crossing 10 minutes). Belmont is easily visible from Gutcher as you look across from Yell, and as you drive off the ferry it stands to your left above the sea. The way into the house is signposted from the main road.
