Former fisherman's lodge, renovated to a high standard. Tranquil, cosy, well equipped with wood-burning stove and complimentary wifi. Open views west over Sandsound Voe. Ideal central location with loch and sea fishing, wildlife and hill and coastal walks on your doorstep. Seabirds, seals and otters regularly seen from the cottage.

Establishment Overview

Built in the 1890s as summer accommodation for fishermen salting and drying fish on the beach below, the cottage is now a cosy, comfortable base for your Shetland holiday.

Accommodation

The entrance porch houses a washing machine/tumble drier, and 3 drawer freezer.

The kitchen with adjacent dining area is fitted with an electric cooker (ceramic hob with grill and double oven), microwave and fridge, with cookware, crockery and utensils.

The bathroom has an electric shower over the bath and a plentiful supply of towels in the airing cupboard. Complimentary Shetland Soap products are provided.

The comfortable sitting-room has a TV, a DVD player and CD/radio, also a wide selection of Shetland-themed books and CDs to enjoy. There’s also a stove, so you can light a welcoming fire after a busy day. Hand-cut peats and kindling are supplied.

The main rooms have electric storage heaters with a fan heater and heated towel-rail in the bathroom.

The bedroom has the option of a superking bed or twin single beds, let Ruth know your preference when you book.

There is paved/grassy area in the front of the west-facing cottage, with a bench and picnic table where you can enjoy the sunset over Sandsound Voe.

Sandsound is lovely for walks; seals and otters are regular visitors. Details of local activities are in the cottage’s information pack.

You’ll find tea and coffee in the cottage and Ruth’s homebakes on your arrival.

WiFi is available free for guests, using their own enabled devices.

Access is by private road off the B-class Sandsound road, with parking right outside the cottage.

There’s a clothes line in the garden and an airer and dehumidifier inside.

A £50 non-refundable deposit is payable on booking with the balance payable on your arrival. Prices include all linen and electricity costs.

Directions

By Ferry

When leaving the ferry terminal, turn right onto the main A970 north. After around 5 miles, turn left onto the A971 west road when you see the signpost to Walls and Sandness. Continue, passing through the village of Weisdale, for around 9.5 miles, till you see the signpost for Sandsound and turn left onto the B-class road. Continue on for another mile and you will see the cottage by the shore, on your right. Turn sharp right onto the Lodge’s private drive, and you’re there. The journey should take around 30 minutes.

By Air

From Sumburgh airport, follow the main A970 north towards Lerwick, then head north from the town on the main A970, joining the A971 and the B-class road to the cottage as directed above. The journey should take around 1 hour.

Ruth will arrange access arrangements with you when you book the cottage.
